Well-bred filly Arctic Flight looks destined for stardom after adding to her handy record with an impressive win at Flemington.

The three-year-old, who is closely related to unbeaten champion Black Caviar, made it three wins from just six starts when she led all the way on a heavy track to land Wednesday’s Peter Armytage Handicap (1200m).

The long neck victory over Toned followed her last-start win at Caulfield where she wore blinkers for the first time and romped home by more than three lengths on April 9.

“She is really switched on now that she has the shades on,” jockey Craig Newitt said.

“She is pretty versatile and has got a good future.”

Trainer Mick Price said he was committed to making the filly a stakeswinner which would make her “priceless”.

“I will have failed on a mission if I don’t get black type with her,” Price said.

“She would be absolutely priceless with a nice black-type win.”

Arctic Flight is a daughter of Flying Spur and Scandinavia making her a half-sister to Helsinge, the dam of Black Caviar.

Arctic Flight ran at Flemington instead of Saturday’s Listed Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) at Randwick which Price nominated her for but decided wasn’t a suitable assignment.

He said her next run might be the Listed Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 12 although she failed previously in Adelaide at her second race start when she was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation.

“We spelled her after that and she has got better and better as she has got older,” Price said.

“She was a big, raw sort of filly early but she is learning all the time.”

Price said 1200 metres looked her optimum distance and expects her to realise her potential next season.

“I think there are areas of improvement in her but we will keep her to 1200 and you will see the best of her when she is a four-year-old mare,” he said.
